Why telemedicine in Graubünden?
Graubünden does not lack specialists, it lacks proximity. The endocrinology department at the cantonal hospital genuinely exists — it simply sits in Chur, and from many Grisons valleys Chur is half a day's journey away. Telemedicine does not replace the blood test; it replaces the trip there, the wait and the trip back.
Care situation: Specialist cover is fine, the geography is the hardest in Switzerland
The Cantonal Hospital Graubünden in Chur runs its own Endocrinology and Diabetology department. Consultations take place at the main site on Loëstrasse 170 and at the Ambulatory Centre Quader on Masanserstrasse 2, which opened in September 2025. It treats hormonal disorders and metabolic diseases, with special clinics for thyroid, osteology, obesity and hypertension. A dedicated andrological clinic for male testosterone deficiency is not listed among its services. So if you are looking for an endocrinologist in Graubünden, you will find one — practically only in Chur.
Outside the Grisons Rhine valley, cover thins out fast. The Spital Oberengadin in Samedan offers endocrinology and diabetology as a consultant clinic — for 2026 the hospital's website lists individual Fridays from May to November, roughly one appointment day per month for the entire Upper Engadin. At the Lower Engadin health centre (CSEB) in Scuol, endocrinology does not appear in the list of visiting specialists. For Scuol, Zernez, Poschiavo, Santa Maria or Roveredo that normally means an appointment in Chur or Samedan — and the journey over the Julier, the Ofenpass, the Bernina or through the Vereina car shuttle is part of the appointment.
For blood draws the picture is better than the map suggests. In Chur, Dr. Risch operates a collection centre on Belmontstrasse. The Spital Davos has its own laboratory, and the laboratory at the Spital Oberengadin in Samedan is run by the Central Laboratory Chur of the cantonal hospital. On top of that comes the densest network of all: family doctor practices in every larger valley. That is exactly what telemedicine builds on — have your blood drawn where you already go, and add the specialist assessment by video.
Wait times: Endocrinologist vs. Telemedicine
Traditional Path
Several weeks; outside Chur additionally limited by fixed clinic days (Samedan: individual Fridays per month)
Family doctor → Referral → Endocrinologist → Start of therapy
Via Telemedicine
A few days after the blood test
Blood test at family doctor → Video consultation → Prescription

Telemedicine for every valley in Graubünden
Telemedicine is independent of your place of residence. Here is an overview of how the process works in different regions of the canton of Graubünden:
Chur, Plessur & Imboden
Cantonal capital with the Cantonal Hospital Graubünden and the Ambulatory Centre Quader. Endocrinology available, andrology not a stated focus. Dr. Risch collection centre on Belmontstrasse. Here telemedicine is mainly a question of waiting time, not distance.
Landquart, Prättigau & Davos
From Landquart and Klosters, Chur is close; from Davos it is noticeably further. The Spital Davos runs its own laboratory. There is no specialist endocrinology on site — a video consultation saves the trip down the valley.
Surselva (Ilanz, Disentis)
A long valley along the Vorderrhein. Good family doctor and basic hospital care, but no endocrinologist. Blood test in Ilanz or Disentis, specialist by video — instead of the drive out to Chur.
Viamala & Albula (Thusis, Savognin, Filisur)
Central Grisons lies on the north-south axis, yet the nearest endocrinologist is still in Chur. For one appointment that means half a working day. Blood test at the family doctor, assessment by video from home.
Upper Engadin (St. Moritz, Samedan, Pontresina)
The Spital Oberengadin in Samedan offers an endocrinology consultant clinic on individual Fridays — the whole valley shares roughly one appointment day per month. The local laboratory is run by the Central Laboratory Chur. Telemedicine makes you independent of that calendar.
Lower Engadin, Val Müstair, Val Poschiavo & Misox
The peripheral valleys: Scuol, Zernez, Santa Maria, Poschiavo, Roveredo. Endocrinology is not listed anywhere here, and every trip to Chur crosses a pass or the Vereina tunnel. Blood test at the family doctor in the village, video consultation from home.
Graubünden is Switzerland's only trilingual canton and, with around 150 valleys, the largest by area — with just over 207,000 inhabitants. That combination explains the care situation better than any statistic: a specialist clinic needs a population density that barely exists here outside the Rhine valley around Chur. Add the seasonal work in tourism, which leaves men in Davos, St. Moritz or Laax little room for weekday appointments. Telemedicine suits this canton because it keeps local only what has to be local: the blood draw.
